'Autumn at West Beck'
I set out with the intention to photograph Mallyan Spout, a beautiful waterfall close to the village of Beckhole in Yorkshire, but it was this fabulous tree close by, precariously balanced over the stream, rather than the spout that caught my attention.
Although I got there early morning, the image ended up being very time consuming to make: the need to find a viewpoint that eliminated an ugly fence, balancing the main elements of the image, the challenge of finding a stable tripod position in the stream, and deciding on the most important values for exposure in a very high contrast scene. Time flew by and, as a result, the spout was left for another day.
Technical Details - Linhof Technikardan, 240mm lens, no filtration. Velvia 50. Scanned with an Epson V700.
Available as a greetings card.
