Sometimes a picture is just a little more than the sum of its parts.
'Red Rock and Water'
Glen Etive has an amazing river - the beauty of the geology as it meanders down the valley is breathtaking.
I made a couple more images in this session prior to this image as I developed the idea of representing the contrast I could see between the water and coloured rock.
In the end I decided to isolate the rock on the far side of the river. I really wanted the effect of the foam floating down the river, but I was concerned about the breeze causing movement with my camera (mounting a straight 450 on a view camera is tantamount to putting up a tent).
In the end I exposed two images, one at 1 second and this one at 12 seconds, shielding the camera and waiting for the breeze to briefly halt. The caution paid off; the final picture was pin sharp.
Technical details: Linhof Technikardan, 450mm lens, Velvia 50. No filtration.
Available as a greetings card.
