The Skipwith Portfolio
Skipwith is about 5 minutes from my home and it has become my local photographic 'playground'. It is a unique area of ancient Wetland Heath in the Vale of York that is being re-generated. Influenced by reading the work of John Blakemore, I have set myself an objective to make 10 strong images in a small area of the Common over a 12 month period during 2010, deploying all of the ideas described in the first five portfolios and using it as a 'playground' to stimulate new ideas and techniques.

'Bark Abstract #2'

This image taught me more about making extreme macro images than any I have made - despite the artistic merits or not of this particular image.

I was attracted by an area of decaying bark and I spent ages practicing setting up and gradually refining my technique so that I could setup and focus on the subject at will. At nearly twice life size, that is not easy.
