'Icicles'

This image was ‘seen’ in an instant. I was hunting for images of rocks with a friend in Glen Etive when I suddenly saw this clump of hanging icicles. What caught my attention most was the lines in the rock running back towards the ice which made a fantastic counterbalance to the vertical ice. I metered for the shadow detail and allowed the highlights to whiten, emphasizing the patterns in the ice.

The blue light of the Glen in shadow added the necessary cold touch to the image.

Technical Details - Linhof Technikardan, 150mm lens, no filtration. Provia 100. Scanned with an Epson V700.
