This image was made on a summer evening trip to Wells with Sandipan and Julian Ashley.
I have taken to using Provia around sunset/sunrise more often than Velvia - I find it gives a slightly more subtle, understated result which I like. I find the new velvia around sunset rather unpredictable in the way it handles colour. Provia also has a much greater dynamic range.
It was the curve of the jetty echoed by the boats that attracted me to this composition. The other key element was to wait for the light to develop and the clouds to be lit by the setting sun.
Wells is famous for its fish and chips shops. A visit to French's, a few hundred yards from where I was setup, was a fine way for us to round off a fun evening.
