I made this image of the oak trees at Padley Gorge on a trip to the Peak District with Julian Ashley. Julian was introducing me to the area and we decided to walk down the side of the Gorge.
We found these trees fairly early on and stopped to work them. However the complexity was very difficult and it took over an hour of hunting and 'constructing' potential images before I found this solution and setup the large format camera.
I was just in time; about 10 minutes after I made this image the sun got up adding a totally impossible tonal contrast to the mix.
